Compare
India vs Eastern Europe, without the folklore.
Poland, Ukraine and Romania have earned excellent engineering reputations. So has India — at 1.5–2.5x less. Here's the comparison founders actually need, minus the regional folklore.
Answer first
The honest verdict
Pick Eastern Europe if you're in the EU and same-timezone collaboration all day matters most. Pick The Contrast if you're a US or UK founder optimising for senior quality per dollar: $20/hr vs $30–70, with your-hours overlap engineered in and every promise in writing.
Side by side
The comparison, in one table.
Eastern Europe (PL/UA/RO)
- Senior rates typically $30–$70/hr; Poland the priciest
- Strong engineering education and delivery culture
- EU-overlapping timezones — ideal for European clients
- High English proficiency
- Rates rising as the region converges with Western Europe
The Contrast
- Senior engineers from about $20/hr — 1.5–2.5x less for comparable seniority
- Daily overlap with US and UK hours, by design
- Fluent English — and everything in writing anyway
- A decade of shipping for US, UK and Indian clients
- The world's largest engineering talent pool behind us
When to pick Eastern Europe
Credit where it's due.
- You're an EU company wanting full-day timezone overlap
- Procurement prefers an EU-jurisdiction vendor for GDPR comfort
- You have an existing team in the region to co-locate with

Questions
Asked before switching.
Is Eastern European code quality better than India's?
That's the folklore, and it doesn't survive contact with either region's top teams. Quality tracks the team, not the map — India ships for Google, Microsoft and half of Silicon Valley. What you should compare is the specific vendor's work, which is why ours is public and downloadable.
How do the rates actually compare?
Independent 2025–26 surveys put Eastern European seniors at $30–70/hour (Poland highest) and India's median at $19–40. Our $20/hr sits at the top of India's band — senior work, priced honestly, still well under Eastern Europe's floor.
What about timezones for a US company?
Neither region is same-timezone with the US — Warsaw is 6–9 hours ahead, Mumbai 9.5–12.5. The question is overlap discipline: we run daily overlap with US hours plus weekly demos, so the offset becomes brief-in-the-evening, progress-by-morning.
